Gonzaga University is a private Roman Catholic university located in Spokane, Washington. Founded in 1887 by the Society of Jesus, it is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The university is named after Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, an Italian Jesuit saint.

History

Gonzaga University was established by Father Joseph Cataldo, an Italian-born priest and missionary. The university was founded to provide education to the growing population of the Pacific Northwest.
