Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF, from its Spanish acronym Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar) is a Colombian government agency tasked with ensuring the welfare and protection of children and families. Established on November 5, 1968, by Decree 3158 and regulated by Law 75 of the same year, the ICBF operates under the aegis of the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection. Its mission is to contribute to the comprehensive development of children and adolescents, the strengthening of families, and the protection of older adults, with a focus on those who are in conditions of vulnerability, abandonment, or violation of their rights.

History[edit]

The creation of the ICBF was motivated by the need to address the social and economic challenges facing Colombian families, particularly those affecting children and adolescents. Since its inception, the institute has implemented various programs and strategies aimed at promoting the rights and welfare of children and families across the country.
