Barnwell is a city in Barnwell County, South Carolina, United States. It serves as the county seat of Barnwell County. The city is part of the Augusta metropolitan area.

History[edit]

Barnwell was established in 1800 and named after John Barnwell, a prominent figure in the early history of South Carolina. The city has a rich history, with several historic buildings and sites that reflect its past.

During the American Civil War, Barnwell was affected by Sherman's March to the Sea, which left much of the area in ruins. However, the city rebuilt and continued to grow in the post-war period.
