Butts County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,434. The county seat is Jackson.

History[edit]

Butts County was created on December 24, 1825, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly. It was named after Captain Samuel Butts, who was killed in the Creek War of 1814. The county has a rich history, with its development closely tied to the growth of the railroad industry in the 19th century.

Geography[edit]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 188 square miles (490 km²), of which 184 square miles (480 km²) is land and 4.0 square miles (10 km²) (2.1%) is water. The county is part of the Piedmont region of Georgia, characterized by rolling hills and fertile soil.
