Fremont County is a county located in the state of Wyoming, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 39,234, making it one of the more populous counties in the state. The county seat is Lander.
History[edit]
Fremont County was created on March 5, 1884, by the Wyoming Territory legislature. It was named after John C. Frémont, a prominent American explorer, politician, and military officer. The county was originally much larger, but over time, parts of it were sectioned off to form new counties.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 9,266 square miles (23,997 km²), making it the second-largest county in Wyoming by area. The county is characterized by a diverse landscape that includes parts of the Wind River Range, the Absaroka Range, and the Shoshone National Forest.
