Chattahoochee County is a county located in the west-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,565. The county seat is Cusseta.
History[edit]
Chattahoochee County was created on February 13, 1854, from portions of Muscogee and Marion counties. It was named after the Chattahoochee River, which forms its western boundary. The name "Chattahoochee" is derived from the Creek Indian words "chatta" meaning "rock" and "hoochee" meaning "marked" or "flowered."

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 251 square miles (650 km²), of which 249 square miles (640 km²) is land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km²) (0.8%) is water.

Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 United States census, there were 9,565 people, 2,500 households, and 1,800 families residing in the county. The population density was 38 people per square mile (15/km²).

The economy of Chattahoochee County is largely influenced by its proximity to Fort Moore, a major U.S. Army installation that straddles the Georgia-Alabama border. The base provides significant employment opportunities and contributes to the local economy.
