Andalusia is an unincorporated community located in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is situated along the Delaware River, northeast of Philadelphia.

History

Andalusia is named after the region of Andalusia in Spain. The area was originally settled in the 18th century and has a rich history tied to the development of the greater Philadelphia area. The community is known for its historic estates and its role in the suburban expansion of Philadelphia.

One of the most notable historic sites in Andalusia is the Andalusia estate, which was the home of Nicholas Biddle, a prominent banker and president of the Second Bank of the United States. The estate is a National Historic Landmark and is an excellent example of Greek Revival architecture.

Geography

Andalusia is located in the southeastern part of Bucks County, bordered by the Delaware River to the south. It is part of the larger Philadelphia metropolitan area and is accessible via major roads such as Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 13.

Demographics

As an unincorporated community, Andalusia does not have its own government or census data. It is part of Bensalem Township, which provides municipal services and governance. The area is primarily residential, with a mix of historic homes and modern developments.

Education

Andalusia is served by the Bensalem Township School District. Students in the area attend schools within this district, which offers a range of educational programs from elementary through high school.

Transportation

The community is well-connected by road and public transportation. The SEPTA regional rail system provides service to Andalusia via the Trenton Line, with a station located nearby in Cornwells Heights. This makes commuting to Philadelphia and other nearby areas convenient for residents.
