Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin is an interactive dark ride attraction located in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort. The ride is based on the character Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story franchise and is part of the larger Buzz Lightyear attractions found in various Disney theme parks worldwide.
History[edit]
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin opened on November 3, 1998, replacing the former attraction, Take Flight. The ride was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering and features a combination of practical sets and audio-animatronics.
Ride Experience[edit]
Guests board an Omnimover ride system, which allows for continuous loading and unloading. Each ride vehicle, known as a "Star Cruiser," is equipped with two laser guns and a joystick that allows riders to spin the vehicle 360 degrees. The objective is to shoot at various "Z" targets throughout the ride to accumulate points.
Queue[edit]
The queue area is themed as the Star Command headquarters, where guests receive their mission briefing from an audio-animatronic Buzz Lightyear. The queue features various interactive elements and displays that set the stage for the adventure.
Gameplay[edit]
Throughout the ride, guests encounter numerous scenes featuring Emperor Zurg and his minions. The targets are marked with different point values, and hitting certain targets can trigger special effects. At the end of the ride, guests receive a score and a rank based on their performance, ranging from "Space Cadet" to "Galactic Hero."
Locations[edit]
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin has counterparts in other Disney parks, including:
- Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters at Disneyland in California
- Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast at Disneyland Paris
- Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue at Shanghai Disneyland
Reception[edit]
The attraction has been well-received for its interactive elements and family-friendly appeal. It remains a popular attraction in Tomorrowland and has inspired similar rides in other Disney parks.
