Underwater Offence (Turkish Armed Forces)

The Underwater Offence (Turkish: Su Altı Taarruz, abbreviated as SAT) is a special operations unit of the Turkish Armed Forces. The unit is part of the Turkish Navy and specializes in underwater operations, including sabotage, reconnaissance, and counter-terrorism.

History[edit]

The SAT was established in the early 1960s to meet the need for a specialized underwater operations unit within the Turkish Navy. The unit was modeled after similar special forces units in other countries, such as the United States Navy SEALs and the British Special Boat Service.

Training[edit]

SAT operators undergo rigorous training that includes underwater demolition, diving, parachuting, and close-quarters combat. The training program is designed to prepare operators for a wide range of missions, including direct action, special reconnaissance, and counter-terrorism.

Operations[edit]

The SAT has been involved in numerous operations both within Turkey and internationally. These operations include counter-terrorism missions, hostage rescue, and maritime security. The unit is also known for its role in NATO exercises and joint operations with other special forces units.

Equipment[edit]

The SAT is equipped with a variety of specialized equipment to support its missions. This includes underwater vehicles, diving gear, and advanced weaponry. The unit also utilizes state-of-the-art communication and navigation systems to ensure mission success.

Organization[edit]

The SAT is organized into several teams, each with its own specific area of expertise. These teams can be deployed independently or as part of a larger task force, depending on the mission requirements.
