Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is a public airport located in Findlay Township, Pennsylvania, approximately 20 miles west of downtown Pittsburgh. It is the primary airport serving the Pittsburgh metropolitan area and is operated by the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

History[edit]

Pittsburgh International Airport opened in 1952, replacing the older Allegheny County Airport as the region's main airport. The airport was originally known as Greater Pittsburgh Airport and was later renamed Pittsburgh International Airport in 1972. The airport has undergone several expansions and renovations over the years, including a major terminal modernization project completed in 1992.

Facilities[edit]

Pittsburgh International Airport covers an area of 10,000 acres and has four runways. The airport features a modern terminal complex with two main concourses, Concourse A and Concourse B, which house a variety of airlines, shops, and restaurants. The airport also has a separate cargo facility and a general aviation area.

  • Runway 10L/28R: 11,500 feet
  • Runway 10C/28C: 10,775 feet
  • Runway 10R/28L: 8,101 feet
  • Runway 14/32: 8,000 feet

Airlines and Destinations[edit]

Pittsburgh International Airport is served by several major airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines. The airport offers non-stop flights to numerous domestic and international destinations.

Ground Transportation[edit]

The airport is accessible via several major highways, including Interstate 376 and U.S. Route 22. Ground transportation options include rental cars, taxis, ride-sharing services, and public transportation provided by the Port Authority of Allegheny County.

Future Developments[edit]

The airport is currently undergoing a multi-year modernization project aimed at improving passenger experience and operational efficiency. This project includes the construction of a new terminal, additional parking facilities, and upgraded infrastructure.
