Playground Games is a British video game developer based in Leamington Spa, England. The company is best known for developing the Forza Horizon series, a popular open-world racing game franchise. Playground Games was founded in 2010 by former employees of various renowned game development studios, including Codemasters, Bizarre Creations, and Criterion Games.

History

Playground Games was established in 2010 with the aim of creating high-quality racing games. The studio quickly gained recognition for its work on the Forza Horizon series, which is part of the larger Forza Motorsport franchise developed by Turn 10 Studios. The first game in the series, Forza Horizon, was released in 2012 and received critical acclaim for its open-world gameplay and stunning visuals.

In 2018, Playground Games was acquired by Microsoft Studios, now known as Xbox Game Studios. This acquisition allowed the company to expand its resources and workforce, leading to the development of new projects, including a reboot of the Fable series.
