Jim Lee (born August 11, 1964) is a Korean American comic-book artist, writer, editor, and publisher. He is currently the Publisher and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics. Lee is known for his highly detailed and dynamic artistic style, and he has been a prominent figure in the comic book industry since the late 1980s.

Early Life and Education

Jim Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to the United States at a young age. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where he developed an interest in comic books. Lee attended Princeton University, where he earned a degree in psychology in 1986.

Career

Marvel Comics

Lee began his professional career at Marvel Comics in 1987, working on titles such as Alpha Flight and Punisher War Journal. He gained widespread recognition for his work on The Uncanny X-Men, where he co-created the character Gambit and contributed to the redesign of the X-Men team. His work on the X-Men series led to the launch of X-Men #1 in 1991, which remains one of the best-selling comic books of all time.

Image Comics

In 1992, Lee co-founded Image Comics with several other high-profile artists. He launched his own imprint, WildStorm Productions, where he created the popular series WildC.A.T.s and Gen¹³. WildStorm became known for its innovative storytelling and high-quality artwork.

DC Comics

In 1998, Lee sold WildStorm to DC Comics, where he continued to work on various projects. He illustrated the Batman: Hush storyline, written by Jeph Loeb, which was published in Batman #608-619. Lee also worked on Superman: For Tomorrow with writer Brian Azzarello.

In 2010, Lee was named Co-Publisher of DC Comics, alongside Dan DiDio. He played a key role in the The New 52 initiative, which relaunched DC's entire line of superhero comics. In 2020, Lee was promoted to Publisher and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics.

Personal Life

Jim Lee is married and has several children. He is known for his philanthropic efforts and has supported various charitable organizations.

Awards and Recognition

Lee has received numerous awards for his contributions to the comic book industry, including the Inkpot Award and the Harvey Award. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential comic book artists of his generation.
