Clark is a city in Clark County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 1,139 at the 2020 census. Clark is the county seat of Clark County.

History[edit]

Clark was established in 1882. The city was named after Newton Clark, a railroad official. The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad played a significant role in the development of Clark.

. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.27 square miles (3.29 km²), all land.

Demographics[edit]

As of the census of 2020, there were 1,139 people, 520 households, and 307 families residing in the city. The population density was 896.1 people per square mile (346.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was predominantly White, with small percentages of other races.

Clark is served by the Clark School District, which includes an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school.
