Major League Baseball team in St. Petersburg, Florida



The Tampa Bay Rays are a professional baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. The team was established in 1998 as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and played under that name until the end of the 2007 season. Since then, they have been known as the Tampa Bay Rays.

History

The Tampa Bay Rays were established as an expansion team in 1998. The team struggled in its early years, finishing last in the AL East in nine of its first ten seasons. However, the franchise saw a significant turnaround in 2008, when they won their first division title and advanced to the World Series, where they were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Rays play their home games at Tropicana Field, which is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. The stadium has been the team's home since its inception in 1998. Tropicana Field is known for its unique features, including the catwalks that hang from the roof and often come into play during games.
