Professional basketball team based in Miami, Florida



The Miami Heat are an American professional basketball team based in Miami, Florida. The Heat compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The team plays its home games at the Kaseya Center, and has won three NBA championships.

History[edit]

The Miami Heat were established in 1988 as an expansion team. The team struggled in its early years but began to find success in the mid-1990s under the leadership of head coach Pat Riley. The Heat won their first NBA championship in 2006, led by Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal. The team won two more championships in 2012 and 2013, led by the "Big Three" of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.

Notable Players[edit]

  • Dwyane Wade: Often considered the greatest player in franchise history, Wade led the team to all three of its championships.
  • LeBron James: Joined the Heat in 2010 and led the team to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances, winning two championships.
  • Chris Bosh: Part of the "Big Three" alongside Wade and James, Bosh was instrumental in the team's success during the early 2010s.
  • Shaquille O'Neal: Helped lead the team to its first NBA championship in 2006.

  • Pat Riley: Served as head coach from 1995 to 2003 and again from 2005 to 2008. Riley is also the team's president.
