Upper Darby Township is a home rule municipality in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located just west of Philadelphia and is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Upper Darby is known for its diverse population, historic sites, and cultural landmarks.
History
Upper Darby Township was settled in 1653 by Swedish immigrants and was incorporated in 1736. The area played a significant role during the American Revolutionary War, serving as a site for several skirmishes and troop movements. The township's development accelerated with the advent of the Philadelphia and West Chester Turnpike in the early 19th century and the arrival of the Philadelphia and Western Railroad.
Geography
