Schwerin is the capital and second-largest city of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is known for its picturesque setting and historical significance. Schwerin is surrounded by lakes, the largest of these being the Schweriner See.
History
Schwerin was first mentioned in 1018 as a Slavic settlement. It was granted town privileges in 1160 by Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony. The city has a rich history, having been the seat of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and later the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
