History

Douglas was established in 1886 as a stop along the Chicago and North Western Railway. The city was named after Stephen A. Douglas, an American politician from Illinois. Douglas quickly grew as a center for the cattle industry and later became known for its involvement in the Wyoming State Fair, which has been held annually since 1905.
