Olive Garden is an American casual dining restaurant chain specializing in Italian-American cuisine. It is a subsidiary of Darden Restaurants, Inc., which is headquartered in Orlando, Florida. Olive Garden was founded in 1982 and has since grown to become one of the largest Italian-themed restaurant chains in the United States.

History

Olive Garden was established by General Mills, Inc. in 1982. The first restaurant was opened in Orlando, Florida. The chain quickly expanded, and by 1989, there were 145 Olive Garden restaurants. In 1995, General Mills spun off its restaurant holdings into a new company, Darden Restaurants, which became the parent company of Olive Garden.

Menu

Olive Garden's menu features a variety of Italian and Italian-American dishes, including pasta, salad, soups, and breadsticks. Some of the most popular items include the Chicken Alfredo, Lasagna Classico, and the Tour of Italy, which is a combination of three classic Italian dishes. The restaurant is also known for its unlimited soup, salad, and breadsticks offering.

Locations

As of 2023, Olive Garden operates over 850 locations worldwide. While the majority of these restaurants are located in the United States, Olive Garden also has a presence in Canada, Mexico, and several other countries.

Marketing

Olive Garden is known for its memorable advertising campaigns, including the famous slogan, "When you're here, you're family." The restaurant chain has also engaged in various promotional activities, such as offering special discounts and limited-time menu items.

Controversies

Over the years, Olive Garden has faced several controversies, including criticism over the nutritional content of its menu items and labor practices. Despite these issues, the chain has maintained a loyal customer base and continues to be a popular dining destination.
