Opération Pièces jaunes is a French charitable initiative aimed at improving the quality of life for hospitalized children and adolescents. The campaign is organized by the Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France, which is a foundation dedicated to supporting hospitals across France.

History

Opération Pièces jaunes was launched in 1989 by Bernadette Chirac, the wife of former French President Jacques Chirac. The initiative was created to collect small change (hence the name "Pièces jaunes," which means "yellow coins") to fund various projects that enhance the hospital experience for young patients.

Objectives

The primary objectives of Opération Pièces jaunes include:

  • Improving the comfort and well-being of hospitalized children and adolescents.
  • Facilitating the presence of families by creating family-friendly spaces within hospitals.
  • Supporting the development of educational and recreational activities.
  • Funding medical equipment and research projects.

Activities

Each year, the campaign runs from January to February, during which time collection boxes are distributed to schools, businesses, and public places across France. The collected funds are then used to finance various projects in hospitals.

Impact

Since its inception, Opération Pièces jaunes has funded thousands of projects in hospitals throughout France. These projects range from the creation of family rooms and play areas to the purchase of medical equipment and the support of pediatric research.

Notable Supporters

Over the years, Opération Pièces jaunes has garnered support from numerous public figures, including celebrities, athletes, and politicians. Their involvement has helped raise awareness and increase the campaign's reach.
