Apple CarPlay Logo

CarPlay is an Apple Inc. standard that enables a car radio or head unit to be a display and a controller for an iOS device. It is available on all iPhone models beginning with iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1 or later.

Features[edit]

CarPlay provides a simplified interface that allows users to make phone calls, use Apple Maps, listen to music, and access messages with minimal distraction. It supports both touch screen and voice control via Siri, Apple's virtual assistant.

Navigation[edit]

CarPlay integrates with Apple Maps to provide turn-by-turn directions, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. It also supports third-party navigation apps such as Google Maps and Waze.

Communication[edit]

Users can make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages, and listen to voicemails. Siri can read incoming messages and transcribe spoken responses.

Entertainment[edit]

CarPlay supports various audio apps, including Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora Radio, and Audiobooks. Users can control playback and browse their music library using the car's interface or Siri.

Other Apps[edit]

CarPlay also supports other apps, such as Podcasts, Audiobooks, and certain third-party apps that have been optimized for use in the car.

Compatibility[edit]

CarPlay is compatible with a wide range of car manufacturers, including BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota. Many aftermarket head units from companies like Pioneer and Kenwood also support CarPlay.

Safety[edit]

CarPlay is designed to minimize distractions while driving. By integrating with the car's controls and providing voice control through Siri, it allows drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
