Besipirdine

Besipirdine is a pharmacological compound that was investigated for its potential use in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It belongs to the class of drugs known as acetylcholine release enhancers and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

Mechanism of Action

Besipirdine functions primarily by enhancing the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that is crucial for memory and learning processes. Additionally, it inhibits the activity of monoamine oxidase, an enzyme responsible for the breakdown of monoamines such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Clinical Trials
