Arthur Carl Wilhelm Heffter

Arthur Heffter (15 June 1859 – 5 February 1925) was a German pharmacologist and chemist who is best known for his pioneering work in the field of psychoactive plants. Heffter's research significantly contributed to the understanding of the chemical properties and physiological effects of various alkaloids found in plants, most notably his isolation of mescaline from the peyote cactus (Lophophora williamsii) in 1897.
