Stephen A. Schwarzman is an American businessman, investor, and philanthropist who co-founded Blackstone Group LP, a global private equity, alternative asset management, and financial services firm. Stephen A. Schwarzman was born to a Jewish family in Philadelphia. He attended the Abington School District in suburban Philadelphia and graduated from Abington Senior High School. Schwarzman then went on to attend Yale University, where he was a member of the Skull and Bones society. After completing his undergraduate degree, he obtained an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Career[edit]
Schwarzman began his career at Lehman Brothers, where he rose to become the head of global Mergers and Acquisitions. In 1985, he and his colleague, Peter G. Peterson, left Lehman Brothers to start their own company, Blackstone Group, with an initial focus on mergers and acquisitions, real estate, and private equity. Under Schwarzman's leadership, Blackstone expanded its services to include hedge fund management, credit, and other financial services, becoming one of the world's largest alternative asset managers.
