The Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, also known as the Tulsa Race Riot, was one of the most devastating massacres in the history of United States, which took place in the Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Background

Events of the Massacre

The massacre began on May 31, 1921, after a young black man named Dick Rowland was accused of assaulting a young white woman, Sarah Page, in an elevator. Over the course of 18 hours, the mob looted, burned, and destroyed much of the district.
