Guillaume Nery

Guillaume Néry (born 11 July 1982) is a French free-diving champion, known for his world record attempts and his deep-sea exploration. Néry specializes in Constant Weight Apnea without fins, a form of free-diving where the diver descends and ascends using only the body's movements without the aid of fins. Over the years, Néry has become a prominent figure in the world of free-diving, not only for his athletic achievements but also for his efforts to raise awareness about ocean conservation.

Early Life[edit]

Guillaume Néry was born in Nice, France. From a young age, he was drawn to the sea, and by the age of 14, he had already begun free-diving. Néry quickly developed a passion for the sport, pushing the limits of his body and exploring the depths of the ocean.

Career[edit]

Néry's career in free-diving took off in the early 2000s. He gained international recognition in 2002 when he broke the world record in Constant Weight Apnea by diving to a depth of 87 meters. This achievement was just the beginning of a series of record-breaking performances. Throughout his career, Néry has broken multiple world records, showcasing his extraordinary ability to dive to extreme depths without the assistance of breathing apparatus.

In addition to his competitive achievements, Néry has also focused on underwater exploration and filmmaking. He has collaborated with his partner, Julie Gautier, a free-diver and underwater filmmaker, on several projects that aim to capture the beauty and fragility of the underwater world. Their work has been celebrated for its breathtaking visuals and its ability to convey a deeper message about the connection between humans and the ocean.

Notable Achievements[edit]

  • World record in Constant Weight Apnea without fins, diving to a depth of 109 meters.
  • Multiple appearances at the AIDA International World Championships, securing top positions.
  • Collaborations on underwater films and documentaries that highlight the beauty of the ocean and the sport of free-diving.

Advocacy[edit]

Beyond his achievements in free-diving, Néry is also an advocate for ocean conservation. He uses his platform to raise awareness about the threats facing the world's oceans, including pollution, climate change, and overfishing. Through his films and public speaking engagements, Néry encourages others to respect and protect the marine environment.

Personal Life[edit]

Guillaume Néry lives in Nice, France, with his partner Julie Gautier. Together, they continue to explore the depths of the ocean, both as athletes and filmmakers, sharing their experiences and insights with a global audience.

Legacy[edit]

Guillaume Néry's contributions to free-diving and ocean conservation have made him a respected figure in both fields. His ability to push the boundaries of human potential underwater, combined with his commitment to raising awareness about the importance of preserving the ocean, continues to inspire people around the world.
