Red Bull RB13 is a Formula One racing car designed and constructed by Red Bull Racing to compete in the 2017 Formula One World Championship. The car was driven by Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, marking a continuation of the team's driver lineup from the previous season. The RB13 was officially unveiled on February 26, 2017, and made its competitive debut at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix.

Design and Development[edit]

The RB13 was developed under the leadership of Red Bull Racing's chief technical officer, Adrian Newey. The car featured several innovative design elements aimed at exploiting the revised aerodynamic regulations introduced for the 2017 season. These regulations allowed for wider front and rear wings, as well as wider tires, leading to significant changes in car design and performance characteristics across the grid.

One of the most notable features of the RB13 was its 'Aero Screen' cockpit protection system, which was tested during pre-season but ultimately not used in competition. The car also boasted a highly sophisticated suspension system, designed to optimize tire performance and aerodynamic efficiency.

Performance[edit]

The RB13's competitive performance throughout the 2017 season was a mix of high points and challenges. The car demonstrated strong pace in several races, with notable performances including a victory at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix by Daniel Ricciardo and multiple podium finishes for both Ricciardo and Verstappen. However, the team also faced reliability issues and was unable to consistently challenge the dominant Mercedes and the resurgent Scuderia Ferrari for race wins.

Despite these challenges, Red Bull Racing finished third in the Constructors' Championship, with Ricciardo and Verstappen securing several individual podiums and a win each over the course of the season. The RB13 was praised for its innovative design and the team's ability to improve its performance through development, but it was also recognized that reliability and consistency were areas requiring improvement.

Legacy[edit]

The Red Bull RB13 is remembered as a competitive but somewhat inconsistent car in the Formula One landscape of 2017. Its development and performance served as a foundation for subsequent Red Bull Racing designs, with lessons learned from the RB13 influencing the design and strategy of future racing cars produced by the team.

The RB13's place in Red Bull Racing's history is marked by its contribution to the team's ongoing efforts to challenge for championships and its role in the careers of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, two of the sport's most prominent drivers during the late 2010s.
