Hemerocallis middendorffii
Hemerocallis middendorffii, commonly known as the Amur daylily, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Hemerocallis, belonging to the family Asphodelaceae. Native to the Amur River region, which borders northeastern China and eastern Russia, this perennial plant has adapted to a variety of climates and is appreciated for its vibrant yellow flowers and robust growth.

Description[edit]
Hemerocallis middendorffii is a herbaceous perennial that typically grows 60-90 cm in height. It features clumps of arching, blade-like leaves that are green in color and can reach lengths of up to 70 cm. The plant produces sturdy, upright stems, known as scapes, which bear clusters of trumpet-shaped, bright yellow flowers. Each flower is approximately 5-6 cm in diameter and consists of six petal-like segments. The blooming period of Hemerocallis middendorffii occurs in early to mid-summer, with each flower lasting only a single day, hence the common name "daylily."
Habitat and Distribution[edit]
Originally from the Amur River valley, Hemerocallis middendorffii has a natural range that extends through parts of northeastern China and eastern Russia. It thrives in a variety of habitats, including meadows, forest edges, and riverbanks. The species prefers moist, well-drained soils and can tolerate partial shade to full sun exposure.
Cultivation and Uses[edit]
Hemerocallis middendorffii is cultivated for its ornamental value in gardens and landscapes. It is valued for its ease of care, drought resistance, and the vibrant color it adds to plantings. The plant is also used in traditional Chinese medicine and is known for its edible flowers, which can be consumed raw or cooked.
Conservation[edit]
While Hemerocallis middendorffii is not currently listed as endangered, its natural habitats are subject to the pressures of human activity and environmental change. Conservation efforts are important to ensure the survival of this species in its native range.
