University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a public research university with campuses near Vancouver and in Kelowna, British Columbia. Established in 1908, UBC is British Columbia's oldest university. The university ranks among the top three universities in Canada. With an annual research budget of $600 million, UBC funds over 8,000 projects a year.

History

The University of British Columbia was established in 1908 under the British Columbia University Act. The university first held classes in temporary facilities in downtown Vancouver, moving to its current main campus at Point Grey in 1925. This campus is situated on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people. The university's second campus, UBC Okanagan, was established in Kelowna in 2005 to provide undergraduate and graduate programs for the Southern Interior of British Columbia.
