American Thyroid Association

The American Thyroid Association (ATA) is a professional medical society dedicated to the study and treatment of thyroid diseases. Founded in 1923, the ATA promotes thyroid research and education, and advocates for the care of patients with thyroid diseases.

History

The ATA was established in 1923 by a group of physicians who recognized the need for a professional organization dedicated to the study of the thyroid gland and its diseases. The association has grown significantly over the years, and now includes members from all over the world.

Mission

The mission of the ATA is to enhance the understanding of thyroid physiology and pathophysiology, improve the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases, and promote the education of physicians, patients, and the public about thyroid disorders.

Activities

The ATA conducts a variety of activities to fulfill its mission. These include the publication of professional journals, such as Thyroid and Clinical Thyroidology, and the organization of scientific meetings and educational programs. The ATA also provides guidelines for the management of thyroid diseases and supports research in the field of thyroidology.

Membership

Membership in the ATA is open to physicians, scientists, and other healthcare professionals who have an interest in the study or treatment of thyroid diseases. Members receive a variety of benefits, including access to the ATA's professional journals and educational resources, and the opportunity to participate in the association's scientific meetings and other activities.
