Hungry Jack's

Hungry Jack's is an Australian fast food franchise of the Burger King Corporation. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Competitive Foods Australia, a privately held company owned by Jack Cowin. Hungry Jack's owns and operates or sub-licenses all of the Burger King/Hungry Jack's restaurants in Australia. As the master franchise for the country, the company is responsible for licensing new operators, opening its own stores and performing standards oversight of franchised locations in that country.

History

Hungry Jack's was founded in Perth, Western Australia in 1971 by Jack Cowin, its first store taking the place of a Wimpy bar. The name "Hungry Jack's" was a result of the already trademarked name "Burger King" being unavailable for use in Australia.

Menu

The menu at Hungry Jack's is largely modelled after Burger King's menu, with an array of burgers, French fries, chicken products, salads, and breakfast items. It also includes unique items only available in Australia, such as the Aussie Burger, which contains ingredients like beetroot and fried egg.

Controversies

Hungry Jack's has been involved in several legal disputes with its parent company, Burger King. The most notable of these was a 1996 case where Burger King sought to terminate its relationship with Hungry Jack's following a series of breaches regarding the opening of new stores.
