Maccabi Healthcare Services

Maccabi Healthcare Services (Hebrew: מכבי שירותי בריאות), also known as Maccabi Health Services or simply Maccabi, is the second largest health maintenance organization (HMO) in Israel. Established in 1940, Maccabi provides a wide range of healthcare services to over 2 million members, representing approximately 25% of the Israeli population.

History

Maccabi Healthcare Services was founded in 1940, during the British Mandate for Palestine. It was initially established to provide healthcare services to members of the Maccabi World Union, a Jewish and Zionist sports organization. Over the years, Maccabi has grown to become one of the leading HMOs in Israel, providing comprehensive healthcare services to a large portion of the Israeli population.

Services

Maccabi offers a wide range of healthcare services, including primary care, specialist care, hospital care, pharmacy services, and preventive healthcare. It operates a network of clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies across Israel, and also provides home care services for patients who are unable to visit a healthcare facility.

Maccabi also operates several specialized centers, such as the Maccabi Institute for Health Services Research and the Maccabi Center for Genetic Counseling. These centers conduct research and provide specialized services in their respective fields.

Membership

Membership in Maccabi is open to all residents of Israel, regardless of age, gender, or health status. Members are required to pay a monthly fee, which is determined by their income level. In return, they receive access to Maccabi's healthcare services, as well as additional benefits such as discounts on medications and health products.
