Norboletone is an anabolic steroid that was developed in the late 1990s and is known for its potential in enhancing physical performance. It was never marketed, however, due to concerns about its safety and legality.

History

Norboletone was first synthesized in 1997 by the pharmaceutical company Wyeth. It was intended to be used as a treatment for muscle wasting diseases and osteoporosis. However, the drug was never approved by the FDA due to concerns about its potential for abuse in sports and its unknown long-term effects on health.

Pharmacology

Norboletone is a synthetic steroid that is similar in structure to testosterone. It has anabolic effects, meaning it can increase muscle mass and strength. However, it also has potential side effects, including liver damage and cardiovascular disease.

Use in sports

Despite never being marketed, Norboletone has been used illicitly by athletes to enhance performance. It was first detected in doping tests in the early 2000s. The WADA has since banned the use of Norboletone in competitive sports.

Legal status

In many countries, including the United States, Norboletone is classified as a controlled substance. This means it is illegal to possess, distribute, or use the drug without a prescription.
