Woxall, Pennsylvania

Woxall, Pennsylvania is a small, unincorporated community located in Montgomery County, in the United States. It is situated in the northern part of the county, within the township of Upper Salford.

History[edit]

Woxall was originally known as Kroppestettel, which in Pennsylvania Dutch means Crowtown. The village was later named Mechanicsville. By the end of the eighteenth century, the town contained a hotel and restaurant, town hall, shoe shop, wheelwright, and about a dozen dwellings.

Geography[edit]

Woxall is located at the junction of Routes 63 and 563 in the county. The community is surrounded by farmland and rolling hills, and is proximate to the Perkiomen Creek, a tributary of the Schuylkill River.

Demographics[edit]

As an unincorporated community, Woxall does not have official population statistics. However, it is part of Upper Salford Township, which as of the 2010 Census, had a population of 3,299.

Education[edit]

Woxall is served by the Souderton Area School District, which provides public education for the area. The district operates a number of elementary, middle, and high schools.

Notable people[edit]

James Endress, a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from the 147th district, was born in Woxall.
