University of Minnesota‏‎

The University of Minnesota (also known as the U of M, Minnesota, or simply the U) is a public research university located in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. It is the oldest and largest campus within the University of Minnesota system, which also includes five other campuses across the state.

History

The University of Minnesota was founded in 1851 as a college preparatory school, seven years before Minnesota became a state. It officially became a university in 1869, and since then, it has grown into a large institution with a diverse range of academic programs and research initiatives.

Campus

The University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus is split into three areas: the East Bank, the West Bank, and the St. Paul campus. The East Bank, home to the original campus, houses most of the university's colleges and schools. The West Bank is home to the College of Liberal Arts, the Law School, and several other departments. The St. Paul campus, located about three miles away, focuses on agricultural and environmental sciences.

Academics

The University of Minnesota offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs across 19 colleges and schools. It is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity" institution, reflecting its strong emphasis on research.

Athletics

The University of Minnesota's athletic teams, known as the Minnesota Golden Gophers, compete in the Big Ten Conference of the NCAA Division I. The university's athletic program includes 25 men's and women's sports.

The University of Minnesota has produced many notable alumni, including Nobel Prize laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and leaders in various fields.
