Brian Skerry

Brian Skerry is an American underwater photographer and photojournalist specializing in marine biological and underwater archaeological subjects. He is a contributing photographer for National Geographic Magazine and has shot stories worldwide about ocean and underwater themes.

Early life and education

Skerry was born in Massachusetts, United States. He developed an interest in photography at a young age and later combined this with his fascination for the underwater world. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Journalism from Worcester State University.

Career

Skerry began his career as a photojournalist in 1986. He has since spent over 10,000 hours underwater using his camera to tell the story of some of the most elusive creatures in the world. His first assignment for National Geographic was in 1998, and he has since completed more than 20 features for the magazine.
