MIBE (Medical Information Bureau) is a database of medical information shared by insurance companies. It is used by insurance companies to assess the risk of insuring an individual. The information in the MIBE is used to determine the premiums for insurance policies.

History

The MIBE was established in 1902 by a group of American insurance companies. The aim was to share information about policyholders in order to reduce the risk of fraud. Over the years, the MIBE has grown to include information from insurance companies around the world.

Function

The MIBE collects and stores medical information from insurance applications. This includes information about an individual's health history, lifestyle, and family medical history. The information is then used by insurance companies to assess the risk of insuring an individual. The higher the risk, the higher the premiums for the insurance policy.

Controversy

The MIBE has been the subject of controversy due to concerns about privacy and accuracy of information. Critics argue that the MIBE has too much power over individuals' access to insurance and that there is a lack of transparency in how the information is used.
