Transport is the movement of humans, animals, and goods from one location to another. In other words, the action of transport is defined as a particular movement of an organism or thing from a point A (a place in space) to a point B. Modes of transport include air, rail, road, water, cable, pipeline, and space. The field can be divided into infrastructure, vehicles, and operations.

Modes and vehicles

The most common modes of transport are air, rail, road, and water. These modes may be used alone or in combination with each other, depending on the type of goods being transported and the distance to be covered.

Air

Air transport is the fastest method of transport, and is used for long-distance travel and in situations where speed is essential. It includes everything from passenger airlines and cargo planes to air taxis and helicopters.

Rail

Rail transport is used for both passenger travel and cargo transport. It is a popular mode of transport due to its efficiency, speed, and lower environmental impact compared to other modes of transport.

Road

Road transport is the most common mode of transport for short to medium distances. It includes everything from cars and buses to trucks and motorcycles.

Water

Water transport includes everything from ships and boats to ferries and canoes. It is used for both passenger travel and cargo transport, and is particularly important for international trade.

Infrastructure

Transport infrastructure includes the fixed installations necessary for transport, including roads, railways, airways, waterways, canals, pipelines, and terminals such as airports, railway stations, bus stations, warehouses, trucking terminals, refueling depots, and seaports.

Operations

Transport operations deal with the way the vehicles are operated, and the procedures set for this purpose, including financing, legalities, and policies.
