Mission Barrio Adentro

Mission Barrio Adentro (Inside the Neighborhood Mission) is a program initiated by the Government of Venezuela with the help of Cuban medical professionals to bring medical aid to impoverished areas in Venezuela. The program was launched in 2003 by the Chávez government.

The diagnostic centers, known as Centros de Diagnóstico Integral (CDI), are equipped with advanced medical equipment and provide specialized medical services. The rehabilitation units, known as Salas de Rehabilitación Integral (SRI), provide physical therapy and rehabilitation services.

Criticism

The program has been criticized for its dependence on Cuban doctors and for the quality of its services. Critics argue that the program is politically motivated and is used by the government to gain political support.
