World Beer Cup
Introduction
The World Beer Cup is an international beer competition organized by the Brewers Association, a non-profit trade group representing small and independent American craft brewers. The competition takes place every two years and is often referred to as "The Olympics of Beer Competitions" due to its international scale and diverse beer style categories.
History
The World Beer Cup was first held in 1996, and has since been held every two years. It was established by the Brewers Association to celebrate the art and science of brewing. This global competition continues to create greater consumer awareness about different beer styles and flavor profiles while promoting international brewing excellence.
Competition
Every two years, a highly qualified professional panel of beer judges honors the top three beers in 91 categories with gold, silver, and bronze awards. They evaluate beers from around the world and recognize the most outstanding brewers and their beers.
Judging Process
The World Beer Cup employs a blind tasting method in its judging process. Judges do not know what beers they are tasting. The judging criteria are purely based on the quality of the beer in the glass. Judges are assigned beers to evaluate in their specific area of expertise and never judge their own product or any product in which they have a concern.
Awards
The World Beer Cup awards gold, silver, and bronze in each category, which are not necessarily awarded every time in each category. The awards are highly regarded in the beer industry, and winners can use the award labels on their winning beers.
Impact
The World Beer Cup has a significant impact on the international brewing community. It not only recognizes the most outstanding beers, but also provides feedback to help brewers improve their quality, and gives consumers an indication of the best beers in the world.
