Lisinopril/amlodipine

Lisinopril/amlodipine is a combination medication used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It contains two active ingredients: lisinopril, an ACE inhibitor, and amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker.

Indications

Lisinopril/amlodipine is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) to lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.

Mechanism of Action

Lisinopril works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, lisinopril relaxes the blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.

Amlodipine belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

Side Effects

Common side effects of lisinopril/amlodipine include dizziness, lightheadedness, or tiredness as your body adjusts to the medication. Dry cough may also occur. Serious side effects include fainting, symptoms of a high potassium blood level (such as muscle weakness, slow/irregular heartbeat).

Precautions

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to lisinopril or amlodipine; or to other ACE inhibitors (such as benazepril); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
