Bulleit Bourbon is a popular brand of bourbon whiskey produced in the United States. It was introduced in 1987 by Tom Bulleit, a lawyer from Kentucky. The brand is known for its high rye content, giving it a distinct flavor profile.

History

Bulleit Bourbon has a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. The original recipe was created by Augustus Bulleit, a tavern keeper in Louisville, Kentucky. However, the brand disappeared after Augustus mysteriously vanished while transporting barrels of his bourbon to New Orleans.

In 1987, Tom Bulleit, a descendant of Augustus Bulleit, decided to revive the family recipe and launched Bulleit Bourbon. The brand quickly gained popularity among whiskey enthusiasts for its unique flavor and smoothness.

Production

Bulleit Bourbon is made using a traditional distillation process. The mash bill consists of 68% corn, 28% rye, and 4% malted barley. The high rye content gives the bourbon its spicy and robust character.

The production process involves fermenting the mash, distilling it in copper stills, and aging it in new charred oak barrels. The bourbon is aged for a minimum of six years, allowing it to develop its complex flavors and aromas.

Tasting Notes

Bulleit Bourbon offers a rich and full-bodied taste with notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice. The high rye content gives it a peppery and slightly floral character. On the palate, it has a smooth and velvety texture, with a long and warm finish.

Awards and Recognition

Bulleit Bourbon has received numerous awards and accolades for its exceptional quality and taste. Some of the notable awards include:

  • Gold Medal - San Francisco World Spirits Competition
  • Double Gold Medal - New York World Wine & Spirits Competition
  • Best Straight Bourbon - World Whiskies Awards

Availability

Bulleit Bourbon is widely available in the United States and many other countries around the world. It can be found in liquor stores, bars, and restaurants. The brand also offers a range of other bourbon variations, including Bulleit Rye and Bulleit 10 Year Old.
