Chicken and Mushroom Pie

Chicken and mushroom pie is a delicious and comforting dish that combines tender chicken, earthy mushrooms, and a rich, creamy sauce, all encased in a flaky pastry crust. It is a popular dish in many countries and can be enjoyed as a main course or as a hearty snack.

Ingredients

To make a chicken and mushroom pie, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 cups of cooked chicken, diced

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they become translucent and fragrant.

3. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until they release their moisture and start to brown.

4. Sprinkle the flour over the mushroom mixture and stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for another minute to cook off the raw flour taste.

5. Slowly pour in the chicken broth and milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.

6. Add the diced chicken to the skillet and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir everything together until the chicken is well coated with the sauce.

7. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the filling cool slightly.

8. Roll out the pastry dough on a floured surface to fit the size of your pie dish. Place the bottom crust in the dish and press it gently against the sides.

9. Pour the chicken and mushroom filling into the pie dish, spreading it evenly.

10. Cover the filling with the top crust, sealing the edges by crimping them together with a fork or your fingers.

11. Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.

12. Place the pie dish on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

13. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Serving Suggestions

Chicken and mushroom pie is delicious on its own, but you can also serve it with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables for a complete meal. It pairs well with a fresh green salad or a tangy coleslaw.
