The University of Delaware (UD) is a public research university located in Newark, Delaware, United States. It was founded in 1743 and is one of the oldest universities in the country. UD offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across various disciplines.
History
The University of Delaware traces its roots back to a small private academy established in 1743. It became a state-chartered institution in 1833 and was renamed Delaware College. In 1921, it merged with the Women's College of Delaware to become the University of Delaware.
Academics
UD offers over 150 undergraduate majors and minors, as well as more than 100 graduate programs. The university is organized into seven colleges and schools, including the College of Arts and Sciences, Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, College of Engineering, and College of Health Sciences.
UD is known for its strong programs in engineering, business, agriculture, and marine science. It is also home to the Biden Institute, which focuses on public policy and community engagement.
Campus
The main campus of the University of Delaware is located in Newark, Delaware. It spans over 2,000 acres and features a mix of historic and modern buildings. The campus is known for its beautiful green spaces and is designated as an arboretum.

Athletics
The University of Delaware competes in NCAA Division I athletics as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The university's teams, known as the Blue Hens, participate in a variety of sports, including football, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse.
The Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team has a strong tradition and has won multiple national championships at the FCS level. The basketball teams have also had success, with both the men's and women's teams making appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
