Sermorelin
Sermorelin is a synthetic (man-made) version of a naturally occurring substance that causes release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. Growth hormone is naturally produced by the pituitary gland and is necessary for growth in children. In adults, growth hormone is involved in many functions including maintenance of body composition, growth and repair of cells and tissues, and metabolism of fats and sugars.
Etymology
The term "Sermorelin" is derived from the first few letters of the words "Serum" and "More", indicating its function to produce more serum or bodily fluids.
Uses
Sermorelin is used for diagnostic evaluation of pituitary function and also for increasing growth in children with growth hormone deficiency. In adults, it is used for anti-aging treatment and for boosting athletic performance.
Mechanism of Action
Sermorelin works by stimulating the pituitary gland to increase the production of growth hormone. It is a growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) that is used to stimulate the body's natural production of growth hormone.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Sermorelin include pain or swelling at the injection site, flushing, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, hyperactivity, sleepiness, and urticaria.
