Lizzie Velásquez

Lizzie Velásquez is an American motivational speaker, author, and YouTuber. Born on March 13, 1989, in Austin, Texas, she was diagnosed shortly after birth with a rare congenital disease known as neonatal progeroid syndrome (NPS), which, among other symptoms, prevents her from accumulating body fat and gaining weight. Velásquez has been a vocal advocate against bullying and has spoken out about her experiences with being bullied online and in person.
Early Life
Lizzie Velásquez was born to Rita and Guadalupe Velásquez. She was born four weeks prematurely and weighed less than 3 pounds. Her condition, which was extremely rare, led to numerous health challenges throughout her childhood. Despite these challenges, Velásquez excelled in her studies and graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Communication Studies.
Career
Velásquez's public speaking career began after she discovered a YouTube video labeling her "The World's Ugliest Woman" when she was 17 years old. Instead of being defeated by this, she took to public speaking to advocate for kindness, anti-bullying, and the importance of inner beauty. She has given talks at various venues, including TEDxAustinWomen, where her speech "How Do YOU Define Yourself" went viral, further establishing her as a prominent motivational speaker. In addition to her speaking engagements, Velásquez has authored several books, including "Lizzie Beautiful: The Lizzie Velásquez Story" and "Dare to Be Kind." These works explore her life experiences and her message of overcoming bullying and embracing one's uniqueness.
Activism
Lizzie Velásquez is also known for her activism against bullying. She has worked on a federal anti-bullying bill in the United States and has participated in numerous campaigns and initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the effects of bullying. Her efforts have made her a symbol of resilience and positivity in the face of adversity.
Personal Life
Despite her condition, Velásquez has maintained a positive outlook on life. She uses her platform to inspire others to overcome their challenges and to promote a more inclusive and kind society.
Legacy
