Mostar (Template:Lang-bs) is a city and municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the largest and one of the most important cities in the Herzegovina region. Mostar is situated on the Neretva River and is known for its historic Stari Most (Old Bridge), which is a symbol of the city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

History

Mostar was first mentioned in 1452 and developed during the Ottoman Empire period. The city is named after the bridge keepers (mostari) who guarded the Stari Most. During the Austro-Hungarian rule, Mostar saw significant development and modernization. The city was heavily damaged during the Bosnian War in the 1990s, but has since been rebuilt.

Geography
