President of Turkey

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (born 26 February 1954) is a Turkish politician serving as the 12th and current President of Turkey since 2014. He previously served as Prime Minister of Turkey from 2003 to 2014 and as Mayor of Istanbul from 1994 to 1998. Erdoğan is a founding member of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), which he led from 2001 to 2014.

Early Life and Education

Erdoğan was born in the Kasımpaşa neighborhood of Istanbul. He attended an imam hatip school, a type of religious vocational high school, and later graduated from Marmara University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.

Political Career

Mayor of Istanbul

Erdoğan began his political career as the Mayor of Istanbul in 1994. During his tenure, he implemented several infrastructure projects and improved the city's water and waste management systems.

Prime Minister of Turkey

In 2003, Erdoğan became the Prime Minister of Turkey. His tenure saw significant economic growth, constitutional reforms, and efforts to join the European Union. However, his government faced criticism for increasing authoritarianism and restrictions on freedom of speech and the press.

President of Turkey

Erdoğan was elected as the President of Turkey in 2014. His presidency has been marked by a shift towards a more centralized executive power, especially after the 2017 constitutional referendum that changed Turkey from a parliamentary to a presidential system.

Personal Life

Erdoğan is married to Emine Erdoğan, and they have four children. He is known for his devout Islamic beliefs and often incorporates religious rhetoric into his political speeches.
