Isle of Wight NHS Trust
The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is the only integrated acute, community, mental health and ambulance health care provider in England. Established in April 2012, it provides a full range of health services to an isolated offshore population of 140,000.
History
The Isle of Wight NHS Trust was established on 1 April 2012 following the merger of the Isle of Wight Primary Care Trust and the Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Trust. The trust is responsible for the provision of hospital, ambulance, community and mental health services on the Isle of Wight.
Services
The trust provides a wide range of services, including emergency care, surgery, maternity, endocrine, mental health, and ambulance services. These services are provided at various locations across the island, including St. Mary's Hospital in Newport.
Performance
The trust has faced several challenges in recent years, including financial difficulties and concerns about patient care. In 2017, it was placed into special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection that rated the trust as 'inadequate'. However, following improvements in care and governance, the trust was taken out of special measures in 2019.
