Fictional character in the Mario video game series

Luigi is a fictional character featured in the Mario series of video games created by Nintendo. He is the younger brother of Mario and is often depicted as the taller and more timid counterpart. Luigi has appeared in many games throughout the series, often as a secondary character, but has also starred in his own titles, such as the Luigi's Mansion series.

Character Design and Development

Luigi was created by Shigeru Miyamoto as a character for the arcade game Mario Bros. in 1983. Initially, he was designed as a palette swap of Mario, with green clothing and a taller stature. Over time, Luigi's character has been developed to have his own distinct personality and traits, often characterized by his cautious and sometimes cowardly nature.

Appearances

Main Series

Luigi has appeared in nearly all of the main series Mario games, including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, and Super Mario Odyssey. In these games, he often serves as a secondary playable character or as a co-op partner for Mario.

Spin-offs and Other Media

Luigi has also been featured in various spin-off games, such as the Mario Kart series, Mario Party series, and Super Smash Bros. series. Additionally, he has starred in his own games, most notably the Luigi's Mansion series, where he takes on the role of a ghost hunter.

Television and Film

Luigi has appeared in several animated television series, including The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! and The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. He is also set to appear in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated film.

Personality and Traits

Luigi is often portrayed as the more cautious and timid of the two brothers. Despite his fearfulness, he is shown to be brave when it matters most, especially when it comes to rescuing his friends and family. Luigi is also known for his high jumping ability, which often sets him apart from Mario in gameplay.

Relationships

Mario

Luigi's relationship with his brother Mario is one of mutual respect and camaraderie. Despite often being overshadowed by Mario, Luigi has proven himself to be a capable and reliable partner.

Princess Daisy

Luigi is often paired with Princess Daisy, who is considered his love interest. Their relationship is depicted in various games, including the Mario Kart and Mario Party series.

Legacy

Luigi has become an iconic character in the video game industry, often celebrated for his unique personality and role within the Mario series. He has a dedicated fanbase and is frequently featured in various forms of Nintendo merchandise.
